I founded People Decide (PD) in 2013 to get participatory democracy into parliament and make a society where people are happier.
You can vote on bills being debated live in parliament through the PD website or mobile app. PD aims to get MPs and Senators elected who have signed a contract that they will vote with the majority of voters on bills in parliament. MPs and Senators only vote with the people when enough people participate and there are deliberative tools to help ensure people understand what they are voting on.
I developed the legal framework, IT structure and step-by-step plan with input from experts, past attempts and examples from around the world to make it work practically and the best possible chance of success in an Australian context. The PD team has reviewed this and is developing the IT system.

I had the concept in the back of my mind for a long time and friends in Byron Bay made the first attempt there in the mid-2000s. I had advised numerous advocacy not-for-profits and managed the Senator Online campaign in Sydney in the lead-up to the 2013 election. It was then time to launch PD.
PD is doing well now with numerous candidates and a good local team.
